How much do you know about Indian hair care? When Western culture is trying to dig more into Ayurveda, the Indian tribe is trying to focus on Western hair ingredients, but why?

Here we shall focus on Indian hair care and why you must find a solution to all your problems first!

Understanding your Hair Dosha!

As per Ayurveda, all of us are composed of five essential components: air, fire, water, space, and Earth. Together, these elements make up three forces of life or Vata (biological humour: air and space), Pita (biological humour: fire and water), and Kapha (Biological humour: Earth and water).

All three biological spheres are present; however, one in each of us is predominant, and that determines our Prakriti, or body constitution.

Vata:

People predominant in Vata dosha are quick thinkers, thin, and fast. When their hair is concerned, it tends to be curly and rough. As a result, they have curly and dry hair and are more prone to split ends.

Pitta:

People predominant in Pitta dosha have sensitive skin and are considered to have fiery personalities. Their hair is soft and straight and may be susceptible to early baldness and greying.

Kapha:

People who are predominant in Kapha dosha have a calm personality and a solid body frame. Their skin is oily, and their hair is dense, straight, and oily.

What should people with predominant Vata Dosha know?

If you find Vata dosha predominant in you, here’s what you can consider implementing in your daily habits:

  • Agitation can aggravate Vata.
  • The primary constituents of Vata are air, and here’s when long calls, excessive media consumption, late sleeping hours, and improper sleep and work time can aggravate Vata. For this, the balance of rhythm and order balances the dosha.

So, one thing you must do to balance your dosha is to synchronize balance in life and create a rhythm.

  • Late nights create a rooksha effect on the body.
  • Vata is very prone to dryness, and lifestyle implementing late nights can cause vata-aggravation. The worst case is using social media at night.

    Solution:

  • Eat foods high in Vata dosha
  • All foods that are hard, fried, crisp and dry can aggravate vata. So what should you eat? Vata dosha diet must include the following:

    • Beverages like buttermilk, warm tea, warm water, and nut milk.
    • Grains like oats, rice, quinoa, and wheat.
    • Fruits like berries, melons, mangoes, avocados, coconuts and cooked apples.
    • Vegetables like carrots, beans, squash, lentils, sweet potatoes, and green leafy vegetables.
    • Spices like bay, ginger, basil, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and turmeric.

Oils like coconut, avocado, sesame, and ghee should be used as cooking oils.

  • Hair oiling
  • Vata dosha exposes you to dryness, and thus, you must oil your hair often to balance it.

  • Use moisturizing hair products.
  • If you can pick a specific type of hair product, choose ones with smoothness and moisture retention properties.

What should people with predominant Pitta Dosha know?

  • Too much sun can aggravate Pitta.
  • Spending too much time in the sun can aggravate the Pitta dosha. Therefore, the morning sun must suffice for the body high in Pitta dosha.

  • Chemicals, toxins and stress aggravate Pitta.
  • Too much exposure to chemical toxins could also be the reason for an inflated Pitta dosha. Stress severely aggravates Pitta dosha. Thus, taking the help of yoga and stress management can bring the balance you need.

  • Improper sleep aggravates Pitta Dosha.
  • Lack of proper sleep and use of caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea further expose you to an inflated Pitta dosha.

    Solution:

  • Stick to a routine
  • Curating and sticking to a routine must be well practised by people with high dominance of Pitta dosha. Also, avoiding the hottest hour workouts and vacations at hot places can help.

  • A cooling diet
  • Following a diet that has schooling effects on the body is recommended. You must pick Flax, Pumpkin, Sunflower, legumes (except soy), Artichoke, Bell Peppers, Bitter Melon, Brussels Sprouts, Asparagus, Peppers, Radishes, Green Olives, Turnip greens, and Turnips. Sugar should be limited!

  • Use products that help with hair growth and has to strengthen properties
  • Hair care products with hair growth properties would be right for you. Though there’s little impact, you should still look for ingredients focusing on hair loss problems.

What should people with predominant Kapha Dosha know?

  • The principal seat of the Kapha is the stomach and chest.
  • Kapha dosha relies on rest and is primarily active in monsoons and winters. Thus, one must wake up early and try to keep the balance in the body.

  • Kapha dosha can cause sinuses, allergies, and nausea
  • Kapha experiences heavy-heartedness and depression as they resist taking help. In cases of too much Kapha production, it starts producing mucus and causes blockages, sinuses and allergies. Thus, one must get up early and stay active throughout the day.

    Solution:

  • Get up early and pacify daily activities
  • While Kapha would resist you from getting up early and getting engaged in activities, one must do that! This will help keep the energies in control.

  • Kapha Diet:
  • Foods with bitter, astringent, and pungent tastes pacify Kapha, and sweet, sour, and salty aggravate it. An ideal diet for Kapha must include warm, light, and dry foods with lots of spices. Spices like black pepper help with allergies and sinuses and promote mucus drainage resisting blockages.

  • Use intense and hydrating hair products.
  • You must also include lighter and hydrating hair care products with the proper diet. Oil like castor is right to massage the scalp.
